little shepherds.

arzila. september 4, 1952. found.

this photograph is simply amazing. it leads me to believe that pereira da silva wasn’t just shooting for fun; he clearly has a trained eye. the images are spectacular. i especially love the little one in the middle, with his hood on!

we were reading about the young shepherd reaching the marketplace in Tangier when it came to me that i had not yet posted this photograph. “The Alchemist” is a lovely book with a wonderful message…talk about an omen.

peeking in.

Image

august 1957. found.

another lovely find from uncommon goods. i think the composition is really interesting with the little boy just peeking out of the corner of the frame. i bet whoever took it would consider this a mistake, but i think it’s great!

deep in the heart of texas.

red ford. marfa, tx. by sofia tomé.

took this with my nifty fuji instax camera back in the spring. i’m really loving the pop of the red with the icier tones behind it.

city living.

in the city, unknown year. found.

this is another image that i picked up at uncommon goods in austin, which is interesting because it doesn’t look at all like texas. is this new york (or maybe chicago)? it is undated, but the fashion leads me to believe that it must have been the 20s or so. i love that both the men and women are impeccably dressed. the fabulous feathered hat of the woman in the middle, the medals on the handsome gentleman…i love these finds!

in love, in spain.

escurial espanha, november 1947. found.

another amazing shot by pereira da silva. the lighting in this photograph is absolutely brilliant. i love that the man is looking at the woman with such longing. (the photographer’s shadow is an added bonus)

a lovely portrait.

bussaco, 1947. found.

this gorgeous shot is one of many that i found at feira da ladra in lisbon this summer. each photograph is signed by “pereira da silva,” who i imagine was a true photographer. the compositions are perfect, the lighting is great, and i am super excited to have found them!

love. love. love.

luis. by sofia tomé.

i shot this with some film i ordered from the impossible project. still haven’t gotten great exposure with the film, but i’m loving the dreamy quality of it.

an adventurous lady.

woman in hill country. unknown year. found.

this is another beautiful photograph i found at uncommon goods in austin. though it is undated, it seems to me that it’s from the 40’s or 50’s. i like to imagine that this lady is climbing the hills of the texas hill country. maybe even somewhere near marfa. i love that she dressed up for hiking 😉

i know it’s been a long time…

i found this photograph a while back in austin and have been dying to scan it, just to share with you. the message on the back makes this even better:

Dear Folks,

This was taken by a street photographer as I was walking along Avenida Juarez in Mexico City. I finally found a room at 1032 Bonnie Brae which I will take until I leave L.A. It is a very large upstairs corner room with a double bed and stove burners. It still gets hot here in the daytime.

Love

Bud
