little shepherds.

arzila. september 4, 1952. found.

this photograph is simply amazing. it leads me to believe that pereira da silva wasn’t just shooting for fun; he clearly has a trained eye. the images are spectacular. i especially love the little one in the middle, with his hood on!

peeking in.

august 1957. found.

another lovely find from uncommon goods. i think the composition is really interesting with the little boy just peeking out of the corner of the frame. i bet whoever took it would consider this a mistake, but i think it’s great!

in love, in spain.

escurial espanha, november 1947. found.

another amazing shot by pereira da silva. the lighting in this photograph is absolutely brilliant. i love that the man is looking at the woman with such longing. (the photographer’s shadow is an added bonus)

a lovely portrait.

bussaco, 1947. found.

this gorgeous shot is one of many that i found at feira da ladra in lisbon this summer. each photograph is signed by “pereira da silva,” who i imagine was a true photographer. the compositions are perfect, the lighting is great, and i am super excited to have found them!

an adventurous lady.

woman in hill country. unknown year. found.

this is another beautiful photograph i found at uncommon goods in austin. though it is undated, it seems to me that it’s from the 40’s or 50’s. i like to imagine that this lady is climbing the hills of the texas hill country. maybe even somewhere near marfa. i love that she dressed up for hiking 😉

bud.

bud. mexico city, unknown year. found.

i know it’s been a long time…

i found this photograph a while back in austin and have been dying to scan it, just to share with you. the message on the back makes this even better:

Dear Folks,

This was taken by a street photographer as I was walking along Avenida Juarez in Mexico City. I finally found a room at 1032 Bonnie Brae which I will take until I leave L.A. It is a very large upstairs corner room with a double bed and stove burners. It still gets hot here in the daytime.

Love

Bud

in the garden.

girl in garden, unknown year. found.

isn’t it interesting how people just love photographing children (usually girls) in their garden? i’m pretty sure i bought this photo at an antique shop somewhere in jersey and though it has no date, it looks like it might be from the 1920s. the bob and the dress are both super cute!

o casamento do tio antonio.

maria joaquina, antonio filipe, manuel filipe. portugal, ca. 1950.

this amazing photograph was taken at my tio antonio’s wedding. my uncle is in the middle and my great-grandparents are on either side of him. i’m pretty sure my cousin scanned this photograph and i am so glad! pictures of my great-grandparents are few and far between. my great-grandmother was beautiful!

p.s. those cheekbone genes were pretty strong.

nyc gentlemen.

rockerfeller center. new york city, 1937. found.

amazing how much style has changed.  i absolutely love how sharp these men look.  they’re totally put together in their 3 piece suits! the bow tie on the left is extra fabulous!!

roadtrip.

south carolina, unknown year. found.

i picked up this photo at an antique shop in montclair, nj just about a year back. there’s no year marked on the image but looks to me like the 50’s. check out her awesome plaid dress!
